Planned Itinerary
We had planned to have an excellent time and see many elephants and other wild animals. We did have a great time, but unfortunately there were not many elephants, and we did make some changes to the itinerary. The original itinerary is available for your perusal here.
Arrival
May 31: Rick, Adam, Keith and Ken left London on British Airways, while Dave left Chicago on United.
June 1: Arrive in Harare at 6.30am - picked up by Julian/Trisha. Collect two vehicles (one to be arranged) and take to South Harare Police Station to get permits to take over border. Depending on time - Faradays Safari outfitters to get cooking utensels, mosquito nets, mosquito candels etc. Chill in Harare that evening
June 2: Dave arrived from Jo'Burg to Harare airport at 12:20 PM, with a wicked hangover courtesy of most of a bottle of Johnie Walker Blue Label. Rick picked him up, but not without leaving him to sit and ponder his fate alone in Africa for 15 minutes. A tour of the national football and cricket grounds preceded a pizza dinner.
Antelope Park
June 3: We drove to Antelope Park, outside of Gweru. The first order of business was a leisurely stroll with four lion cubs. Following this walk, during which Adam was nearly attacked, we set up the tents and had a brai, at which point we discovered that Ken was cooking up some good food.
June 4: As Rick and Judy began tearing down the tents, the rest of the group went for a horseback safari during which giraffes, zebras and various antelope were encountered.
